Affidavit of Samuel & Rachel Thames 1851 Coffee Co AL. State of Alabama ) County of Coffee ) On this the 26th day of May AD 1851 Personally appeared before me Moses W Helms a Justice of the peace within and for the county of Coffee and State of Alabama, Samuel Thames and Rachiel Thames who being each first duly sworn according to law depose and say on their oaths aforesaid that they were intimately acquainted with James Sutley deceased and also with Mary Sutley that their acquaintence commenced with them about forty years ago in the State of South Carolina when for many years they knew them as man and wife and they also knew them (the deceased & the said Mary) as man & wife as aforesaid in the State of Georgia up to his death which they believe was on the day mentioned in her within affidavit, that affiant the deceased & the said Mary moved together from South Carolina to Georgia and after the death of the said James Sutley that his said widow moved with them to the state of Alabama, that they are now residents of the county of Coffee in the State of Alabama that they often saw the original pension certificate of the deceased in his possession before his death and frequently in the possession of his said widow since his decease that they fully corroborate her affidavit herein set forth - that they know her to be the widow of said deceased & still to be a widow.
