- Marriage announcement in the Star and Evergreen Courant from 1902: "On Wednesday, April 16th at 1:30 P.M. a very large crowd assembled at the residence of Mr. C. A. Thames to witness the marriage of his daughter, Miss Lucy to Mr. Chas. McLendon. Castleberry, Chief Justice A. T. Thames gracefully officiating. The parlor was decorated with smilax, bridal wreath and roses. The attendants were Miss Mattie Thames and Mr. Denver Hughes, Miss Mamie Thames and Mr. Will Findley, Miss Ella Rose and Mr. Cornelius Thames, Jr. The numerous presents attested to the popularity of the bride. Only one thing marred the happiness of the occasion; the grief of the aged mother at giving up her last child. One friend of the family, having the courage of her convictions, rebuked the groom for his cruelty. In reply he quoted from the Bible: "It is not good that man should live alone." The happy couple left for their home Friday morning."
