81 Generations 1-3: most of this data is from various records in my personal files and personal knowledge.
Generations 4 and subsequent: Most of this data is from The Smith-Womble & Related Families by Letha M. Williams, published by the author in 1977, LOC Catalog Card No. 77-79759. Much of her data came from family members who were born in the late 1800s and who had personal knowledge of these forebears, coupled with records, e.g. Bible records, the present location of most of which I do not know. Because of the long lives and overlapping generations, I am confident that the lineage to Matthew Thames is correct, although there might be some minor errors in the dates and places. The lineage beyond Matthew is not proven to my satisfaction. Cheryl Lindsey, another descendant of Matthew, shows that Matthew's father was likely Samuel Thames, born ca. 1745 in Bladen Co. NC whose father was likely Thomas Thames b. ca 1704, possibly in England, who married Prudence. and who died ca. 1766 in Virginia or North Carolina.
